Heart Transplant Recipient
Meets Donor's Family

This was a very special story to be a part of. A man who received a heart transplant decided several years later, to meet with the donor's family.

I met with each family individually beforehand, and the two actually met for the first time in front of my camera.

Amtrak Train Derails

An Amtrak passenger train headed to Chicago derailed in Jackson County. I was on the scene minutes after it happened. Miraculously, no one was injured.

Here are clips of our coverage, from the moment I got to the scene up to our noon show. This situation was tricky, since we were in a rural area and could not get a clear signal for a live shot.

Jackson Man on "The Price is Right"

A light-hearted story here.

A Jackson man's dreams came true after making his way to contestant row on 'The Price is Right'.

I interviewed him while he re-lived the experience as it aired on TV 6 for the first time.

Mr. Avery is one of those priceless people, that are truly a joy to meet. And experiences like this are one of my favorite parts of the job.

Mummified Body found in Jackson

For nearly two years, a Jackson woman kept her friend's dead body in their home. Police found the body after friends and family finally requested a welfare check, saying they hadn't seen their loved one in quite some time. Investigators found Charles Zigler's body, mummified in a living room chair.

I spoke with the woman, who lived with that body. She explains why she couldn't let go.

Karra and Jocelyn's Law

For two months, I followed the families of Karra and Jocelyn, both of whom were shaken and killed as infants.
This story covers both family's attempts to lobby for legislation to create harsher penalties for shaken baby convictions.
The 2010 legislative session marks Karra and Jocelyn's law's fourth attempt at becoming law.

H1N1 Causes School District Closures

Finding ways to make a national story local gives it relevance in small markets.
During the H1N1 outbreak, one Mid-Missouri school district's solution to curbing sickness was canceling classes for a few days.
I traveled to High Point, Missouri to speak with the High Point School District faculty to find out why they decided this was the best option.

Fall harvest delays

Agriculture is a huge part of Missouri's economy, so it's essential to cover it when the market is affected.

In the fall of 2009, Missouri received enough rainfall to cause some major crop damage, effecting many Mid-Missouri farmers, as well as consumers.

Free short stacks go a long way

Columbia, Missouri is home to the MU Children's hospital, which is a Children's Miracle Network (CMN) beneficiary. To benefit that hospital, and help meet its expansion goals, the local International House of Pancakes held a fundraiser by giving away a short stack of pancakes and in return, asking patrons for a donation to CMN.
During this event, I did a live interview with CMN coordinator for MU Children's Hospital.
